![]() ![]() And I just think it should be balanced out a bit since all you hear most of the time is complaints. But myself and thousands of others run PACE protected software all day long without issues. That is obviously going to be the same with most. I prefer no copy protection over dongles and PACE any day of the week. Where does that rumor even come from?(not that it's crashed a system, but that it's done intentionally) Though I also don't see any evidence that if there is an issue with PACE protected software that it will crash your system intentionally. I understand that many people have had serious issues arise in their systems. That's why I suggested that he have his ghost backup ready and try it. Same with any software, whether it's Photoshop, 3DStudio MAX, or Sonar/Reaper/PACE/insert music software here. My point was just that even though you hear bad things about PACE, it's not the majority. I never implied that you shouldn't be concerned about road safety, or that a DAW user shouldn't be concerned about copy protection. But just because a few people DO have problems on the road doesn't mean that you should live scared of driving and choose not to. Just that it's not as bad as it may seem. I didn't say they shouldn't be concerned. It would be like car dealers putting some gadget in their vehicles that if they thought you were behind with your payments would deliberately cause the car to crash. Thousands drive on our roads every day without being killed, so we shouldn't be concerned about road safety?īut what really bugs me is that for those people who have had their DAWs turned into a nightmare as a result of using PACE protected software in many cases this isn't an unforeseen by-product of the PACE protection system. ![]() So maybe somebody with more technical knowledge(Justin would likely know) can confirm whether a driver can change system time or not.īrent, I find this argument difficult to follow. I honestly don't even know if that is possible for a driver to do, is it? IIRC, that was what made you get pissed about PACE in the first place. ![]() I remember you talking about your clock being changed by the PACE drivers. But if a plugin is worth it to you, have your ghost backup ready and try it. PACE is a touchy subject, and it definitely isn't perfect. The dev confirmed that it was something related to their plugins and I was able to get up and running again by just reinstalling(no re-authorization needed). CCLeaner deleted it's authorization somehow. The only issue I've had is when I used CCleaner to clean some stuff up and a particular plugin suite needed re-installed. And I have a lot on my iLok and haven't had an issue. Personally for me, I've not had a single issue on multiple systems with anything PACE related. And regardless of your stance on copy protection and how it affects the consumer, you need to weight whether the plugin is worth the inconvenience. But I know that there are good products out there that happen to use protection that isn't the most ideal. Something like Reaper or Sonar is preferred, or even Podium/WIVI which has less protection than anything out there(Podium with nothing, WIVI with watermarking). Regardless of what you may think about dongles in general(as that is not what this thread is about), PACE isn't the most ideal copy protection. There ARE a good amount of problem reports, but it's not the majority by far. It's used by thousands daily with no issues at all. iLok/PACE is the most widely used dongle solution in the industry. But I think it should be said that even though you see a lot of problems reported online, I don't think it's a majority thing by any stretch. And I've commented over at KVR about this as well as you know Bevoss. My motto is "Test or die like the rest" on dongles. An iLok is also an option, which is what I use because the RX package is being used on both my PC and Mac. It's an ok price to pay if you're not keen on dongles. You can remove it prior to hardware changes and then redo the authorization if you're not sure. Izotope RX uses software authorization, based on your hardware. It's just that folks leave it to others to try out.įor example my Omnisphere synth uses a serial attached to my name, and I can do a few authorizations and always request more because they encourage you to use your synth on more than one computer if you wish, just not be used by more than one person. Funny thing is though, it works in other ways as well. Waves in particular has been in hot water of its license policy(transfers were hard), but the need for this kind of copy protection is a little too obvious for some software producers. I use a HASP key and an iLok on my PC and the iLok sometimes on my Mac, so far without problems (touch wood). Nothing is faster for clearing up software experiments. I highly recommend the image backup and restoration method as well. ![]()
